    Introduction & background

Annual reports are produced to comply with legal requirements, to provide evidence of accountability to the owners of a business (often shareholders) and to other stakeholders. In addition they are used for many other purposes, particularly as a means of marketing and promoting a “good” image of the business

Detailed Brief for Individual Assessment – i.e what we require/expect
Please prepare an ESSAY setting out the following:

What, and to whom, are business organisations responsible (accountable), in our society and how good are they at meeting their responsibilities?  Please use real life examples to support your claims.

Presentation and Structure – we expect you to use a formal essay style of writing – guidance can be found on the CASE website

Referencing – we expect you to use Harvard referencing and to demonstrate that you have undertaken research to support your writing of this essay – thus we expect to find references that have not come directly from our teaching this semester.  We will only give marks for references which are both correct at the end of your assignment but also used correctly within your written text.  Any evidence of misuse of other people’s work will impact the final score under this section but also the final score under each of the remaining sections.

Research – the breath of additional research undertaken to support your argument in this assignment i.e. we are looking to see how well you can provide us with evidence based discussion rather than simply giving us your own opinions. Do not make unsubstantiated claims about any specific organisation
