    MODULE AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

    To plan, develop and realise an appropriate, independent research project (dissertation) under relevant subject-specialist supervision and through a process of drafting & revision, grounded in a thorough preparation in methods of study and conceptual formulation, as dictated by the scope and character of the research undertaken.

    The learning outcomes for this module are:

    Knowledge 

    1. Demonstrate a systematic understanding of knowledge and a critical awareness of issues relating to educational development and the management of learning (IC, EID, SID, IC, COI, DP)

    Thinking skills – the following competencies are being addressed: (IC, EID, SID, IC, COI, DP) 

    1. Critically reflect on their professional values, concerns, priorities and actions and to understand them in broader social, political and economic contexts
    2. Demonstrate a conceptual understanding of approaches to research in professional practice and learning and an ability to critique them
    3. Critically evaluate current research in education
    4. Demonstrate originality in the interpretation and application of knowledge and research in professional practice and learning

    Subject-based practical skills/ Skills for life and work (general skills) – the following competencies are being addressed: (IC, EID, SID, IC, COI, DP) 

    1. Deal with complex professional issues systematically and creatively
    2. Use research to inform the development of practice
    3. Demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems
    4. Demonstrate a capacity to direct and sustain their continuing professional development.
    5. Demonstrate an ability to communicate conclusions clearly to a wide range of audiences and for different purposes
