The assignment focuses on the role of OS as an interface between the user and the computer
hardware, and the use of command line interface. It helps the students to understand the different
types of OS and their relative performances.
With this assignment, students will learn how to research and comprehend the basic concepts of OS,
and appreciate the differences and similarities in the interfacing role they play on various computing
and communication devices.

1. A payroll system manages everything having to do with the process of paying employees and
filing employment taxes. They are put in place to keep track of worked hours, calculating
wages, withholding taxes and other deductions, printing and delivering checks, and paying
government employment taxes. In your view what type of OS has to be considered for the
payroll system? Reason out why the type of OS should be selected.
