    1. Introduction:

This report is based on the case study 5 which discuss the Ilnaz, a 20-year-old female who is selected in the interview taken by the manager of Australian company “CompuSoft”. This report aims to discuss the ethical dilemma faced by Ilnaz. Apart from this report also illustrates Thomas White’s methodology in order to analyse and resolve the ethical dilemma. Moreover, clauses of ACS codes of ethics and ACS codes of professional conduct relevant to the selected case study are also explained in the report.

    2. Ethical dilemma

The manager of Ilnaz told her to share the same office with the male colleague namely Mark but it is against the religion of Ilnaz to share the same office with a male so she was unhappy with this decision of the manager. Her husband ordered her to quit the job due to this region. Therefore, Ilnaz is facing the ethical dilemma of whether she quits the job or pursued her manager to change this arrangement

    3. Thomas White’s methodology to analyse and resolve the ethical dilemma

    1. Analyse the consequences:

In this step, Ilnaz can assume the various options that she can follow and can analyse the different consequences i.e; positive as well as negative, of these options (White, n.d.). For example, the first option is persuading the manager to change this arrangement by taking with him. As a consequence, the manager can fire her from work for not following his orders or the manager also can change the arrangement according to her request. On the other hand, if Ilnaz continues her job and shares the office with the male employee then it would be the breach of rules and ethical values associated with her religion and culture which may cause inconvenience to her.

    2. Analyse the actions:

Rather than focusing on consequences, Ilnaz should emphasize on various actions. She should focus on ethical values such as fairness, honesty, legal issues, respecting the dignity of others, equality and many more (White, n.d.). In these steps, various ACS codes of ethics and professional conduct should be analysed by the Ilnaz. The ACS codes relevant to this case scenario are discussed below.

The primacy of public interest: This ethical value states that the ICT professional must place the interest of public over the sectional, private or personal interests (Burmeister, 2017). As the Ilnaz don’t want to share the office with the male colleague in accordance with her religion and cultural values, she can talk with his manager about this. According to this ethical value, the manager must consider the interest of Ilnaz and change the arrangement.

Competence: According to this value, the ICT professional must respect and protect the proprietary interests of its employees or stakeholders. They must aware of the relevant legislation and standards. In this case, Ilnaz can discuss her problem with the manager and according to this ethical code, the manager must protect and respect her interest. As it allows the professionals to follow the rules and regulations, no law allows the manager to play with the cultural and religious values of employees (ACS Code of Professional Conduct, 2014).

Honesty: This ethical code states that the professionals do not breach the trust of the public or stakeholders (ACS Code of Professional Conduct, 2014). As the manager has not disclosed about the sharing of office with a male colleague to the Ilnaz at the time of her selection, it can be referred to as a breach of trust. In this case, Ilnaz can take help of senior management and raise this issue.

    ACS codes of professional conduct:

Following clauses of this ethical code are associated with this case (ACS Code of Professional Conduct, 2014).

    1. Ilnaz will take informed, objective, calm and knowledgeable stance on your professional work, complementing his engagement and enthusiasm in it.

    2. Ilnaz will neither require, nor attempt to influence, any person to take any action which would involve a breach of this Code.

    3. Ilnaz will take appropriate action against members who engage in behaviours contrary to this Code;

    4. Ilnaz will refrain from any conduct or action in his professional role which may tarnish the image of the profession or detract from the good name of the ACS

    5. Ilnaz will endeavour to extend public knowledge and understanding of ICT

    3. Decision:

Based on the analysis of the above steps, Ilnaz can choose the most appropriate decision. Ilnaz is recommended to talk with the manager regarding her problem. She must discuss the clauses of ACS codes of professional conduct and ACS codes of ethics with the manager in order to persuade him to change the arrangement. If the manager will be not willing to change the arrangement, then Ilnaz can approach to the senior management to discuss the issue and can complain the management about the violation of laws and ethical values by the manager.
